It has been a wild, wet and windy night and today isn’t a whole lot better as the Wellington Region gets battered about by a storm, though the reports are that it will ease up later today. We are hunkered down inside in the warm being one of the fortunate homes in this area that didn’t lose power in the storm but I do feel for the birds outside.
The sparrows are noticeable by their absence but the waxeyes and the tui are still desperately clinging to the trees and looking for food in the feeders. We have been unable to use the main feeder because of the wind but have been filling bowls for the birds in the covered feeder. At one point I counted about 15 birds all clustered around the bowls feeding.
