We’ve had some wild weather over the past few days, the kind that keeps you tucked inside listening to the wind roar and the rain lash at the windows. But yesterday and today have been absolute stunners! When the sun finally broke through, the garden came alive again, and so did the bees.

As soon as the warmth returned, the bees were out in full force, busy gathering pollen and helping to pollinate the flowers around the garden. Our clematis, which is currently flowering along the driveway fence, has become their favourite feeding spot and the perfect place for a little bee photography in the garden.

With the camera in hand, I spent some time capturing the bees in action. A few gusts of wind added some excitement, blowing the lighter bees right off the flowers, while others struggled to stay upright under the weight of their heavy pollen sacs. It was a reminder of just how hard these tiny pollinators work every single day.

From a photographer’s point of view, the breeze also had a surprising advantage. The moving flowers and shifting light created beautifully soft, dreamy backgrounds that added a gentle, almost painterly feel to the images, a perfect mix of motion and stillness.

After several days of wild weather, it was wonderful to stand in the sunshine, camera ready, surrounded by the hum of bees and the scent of blooming flowers. Bee photography in the garden always reminds me how rewarding it is to pause and appreciate the small, hardworking creatures that keep our gardens thriving.
