Yellow-edged giant owl butterfly

A visit to the butterfly house

Just a few days after we arrived home from our trip to Auckland, we received a phone call and had to return. Travel bags were dragged out again and quickly packed. As was my camera gear because this time I was keen to visit the Butterfly House at Butterfly Creek. On our two previous visits to Auckland, there were situations that prevented us from going their each time.

Blue morpho butterflies are fast flyers and rarely stop with their wings spread like this one. I wasn’t about to miss this blue morpho once it was pointed out to me. The blue of it’s wings is so pretty, the photograph really doesn’t do it justice. There was so much to photograph, butterflies, butterflies and reptiles. The bearded dragons were great at posing for the camera too.

The Eastern blue tongue skink was perfectly posed for the above image. Not only did I have fun photographing the butterflies and reptiles, but I also found some very large fish in their aquariums. The room is very dark and the fish tanks are the only lights. It was super hard to capture clear images of the fish, but I am very happy with these ones.
