This post is a little later than promised. Christmas and family events have kept me away from both the camera and the computer of late. My English lavender is already past its best but I am so happy I have so many lovely images from it this year. The English lavender attracts bumble bees into my garden.
I do love bumble bees as they are such fun to photograph. They provide so many challenges, close-up, in flight, soft backgrounds etc. The biggest challenge is culling the resulting images down to my favourites and deleting the rest. My drives would be exploding now if I kept them all!
These images were taken in the afternoon where the light was a little softer than other times of the day. Not quite golden light but very close to it. The English lavender attracted the bumble bees even when the sun wasn’t bright. The other bees weren’t interested unless it was sunny and warm.
The backgrounds were very easy to get a soft and dreamy look because there was a strong wind moving the lavender all the time. It was a challenge to get anything sharp with the wind, and fast shutter speeds were required.
As another year is coming to an end, I am planning for the next. There are some exciting photographic adventures planned for the next 18 months. I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and look forward to hearing from you in the new year. Feedback is always welcomed here.
