Hihi / Stitchbird

Hihi (Stitchbird) are very rare and unusual within the bird world.  They belong to a family of their own with no close linked relatives.  They are incredibly quick and notoriously hard to photograph because their speed and the low light of the bush they live in really don’t go well together.  However I am drawn to their delightful colours and poses so continue to try and achieve better images.  The male has the bright yellow, the female has more subdued colours.

I am very proud to be able to contribute my hihi images for use in the Hihi Recovery Group Annual Report for 2022.

Check back from time to time as I will add more images as and when I photograph them.  These are a mixture from Zealandia, Tiritiri Matangi Is., and Bushy Park.
