Queen Elizabeth Park on the Kapiti Coast

Queen Elizabeth Park near Mackays Crossing on the Kapiti Coast is a bird photographers paradise. There is a substantial wetland area where a variety of bird species have made their home. We never know what we are likely to see there and each visit gives different results. On this visit we only had a short amount of time so it was more of an opportunistic photo shoot that anything else.

I was hoping to capture the white-faced heron snacking on a frog, as I had seen an image of it recently from the same location. Unfortunately the heron was wise to my tricks and took frogs off the menu. It also decided that cameras were not friendly items either.

This pair of Canada goslings were too cute not to take a photograph of. There were two families of Canada geese with goslings, the other ones were a little large that these cuties.

While we saw and heard a lot of other bird species on this visit, the opportunity to photograph them just wasn’t there in the time we had. We did enjoy some time with a family of fantails / piwakawaka. The image above is of a young fantail that was hoping we would disturb some bugs for its dinner.

Having a time limit did reduce the amount of images I had to process for this post. Later in the afternoon the bumble bees got busy again and so did my camera. Watch out for the next post! As usual, feedback is welcomed here.
