It has been a couple of weeks now, and I’m delighted to say the bellbird is still visiting our garden and bird feeder. Although he sometimes disappears for a couple of days, he always comes back. On wet, rainy days, he lingers longer, giving me more opportunities to capture beautiful bellbird photographs in the soft, diffused light.

The silvereyes also seem to stick close to the feeder when the weather turns wet and cold. They spend so much time squabbling over who gets the first bite that they often miss out on the best pieces of fruit. The bellbird, however, wastes no time. He quickly clears the garden of competition before feeding, sending most of the smaller birds scattering before he even begins his chase.

Most of the bird photographs in this post were taken in the rain, through my dining room window. Using the house as a hide keeps me warm and dry, while still allowing me to photograph the birds up close without disturbing them. I especially love the texture and mood that raindrops add to bird photography. There’s something magical about capturing those tiny droplets clinging to feathers and branches.

Rainy days shouldn’t stop you from enjoying bird photography. In fact, overcast skies often create soft, even lighting that is perfect for photographing birds. The weather doesn’t seem to put them off visiting the garden either, in fact, it sometimes brings them closer.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this latest set of images of our resident bellbird and silvereyes. Your feedback is always appreciated, and if you know someone who would enjoy this post, please share it. You can also get in touch with me anytime via my [contact form].
