Shore Plovers

Back in 2014 I saw a lot of images of Shore Plovers from fellow photographers, yet every time I went out to Plimmerton to find them, they were no where to be seen. It wasn’t until DOC made the decision to move them that I started to think I would never get to see them. So a couple of days before they were moved I went back with a fellow photographer and was lucky enough to capture these images.

The Shore Plover is one of the world’s rarest shore birds and it was felt that the danger of dogs being on the beach off their leads and other predators were making it too risky to leave these five birds in the wild. They were caught and moved to a protected area where hopefully they will breed and increase their numbers.
