I am truly amazed at how many teeny tiny creatures I am finding in my garden. Today’s post is all about a little wasp that is only 10 mm in length. A similar size to the little native bee I posted about a few posts back. It is called a Solitary wasp Ancistrocerus gazella, and was accidently introduced to New Zealand.

The Solitary wasp other than being so tiny, also has very distinct banding on its body which makes it easy to identify as you can see in the image above. My elderberry tree is attracting all sorts of insects at the moment and it is becoming a bit if a challenge to find something different each day.

I absolutely love this front on view of the wasp. It would be fun to say it was deliberate but the reality is that I just had the shutter firing at the right time. I had no idea I had captured it and found this beauty during processing. Who would have thought a wasp could look so cute! It gives you an idea of size too.

The next challenge was to capture the tiny wasp in flight. Just focusing on something so small from a distance is challenging, see it take flight even more so. However I am happy to say I managed to capture a few flight images of this Solitary wasp.

It is fitting to finish this post with the wasp flying away. It did that a lot during my time watching it. Have you seen these in your garden? What will I find next that I have never noticed before? As always you can send me feedback here. Enjoy!
