Today’s images are all from my garden. We went outside to see if we could find something different and that is exactly what we found. I had no idea how many different bees and wasps we have in our garden, but today they were happily showing themselves to the camera. I believe there are two different wasps and three different bees in today’s collection.

All of todays images were taken using my Lumix G9II and the Leica 100-400 lens (35mm equivalent is 200-800). By using this lens at full extension I am able to use it as a macro lens without having to be too close to the bees and wasps. I am not fond of being stung!
Wasps

There are two different types of wasps that I have photographed today. The first one is quite spectacular in its markings and colours and made for some really interesting images. After doing a Google search I have identified it as a black and white striped ichneumon wasp which are native to New Zealand but also found in Australia. It has spots on the top part of its body and stripes on the lower part. There are also white patches on the antennae and back legs.

The second wasp we found is a common wasp. I only managed a few images of this wasp however I was happy with the results given that we were on a narrow path on the side of the house.

Bees
I believe I found three different bees species today. The first of the set is our standard honeybee. We haven’t seen that many honeybees in the garden since most of the flowers have finished. There are still lots of bumblebees around but I have not included them in this post. I will share some of their images on Facebook at some stage.

The second species of bee (see below) I believe is one of our native bees. It is very small but with its distinctive yellow spots it showed up on a Google search as being a native bee of New Zealand. Knowing they are in my garden I will be looking for them more often. Lastly is the wool carder bee which I have photographed before, today it was sitting on the anemone flower.

I hope you have enjoyed today’s selection of images, I look forward to receiving your feedback and if you have any questions for me send them too and I will do my best to answer them.
