Sitting On The Fence

On a recent trip to Brisbane to visit family, I spent some time photographing the birds that sat on the fence in their backyard. The Australian birds are so colourful that it was hard to put the camera down. Capturing the birds in flight was also one of the things I focused on while staying there, but that is a topic for another post. Be sure and keep a look out for that post coming soon.

All of these images were created using my Lumix G9II and my Leica 100-400 lens. The only time I changed out the lens was when I did some portraits of our grandchildren. With the back yard being so small, the fence wasn’t that far away. This meant that I was able to get really close to the birds using the lens at full extension.

There are a bunch of other birds that have been seen on this fence, however I wasn’t there at the time. The crows are about in the mornings, and a kookaburra has made the odd visitation. I would have to spend more time there to get them all on the fence, maybe on my next visit. I have to admit I find the crows somewhat disturbing. They remind me of watching the Alfred Hitchcock movie in my teenage years. Just thinking about it makes me shudder!

Keep a look out for more posts on colourful Australian birds. These are just the start of my 2024 Oz adventure. Enjoy!
