It has been quite some time since I have had the time or the energy to get back to visiting the kingfishers. Pretty much since my last surgery 2 years ago. This year I have a new camera and a renewed passion for my photography. Yesterday we arrived a little too late for any diving action and the wind was bitterly cold even though the sun was out. Today was a total different story.
The sun was shining, it was warm and there was no wind. The still water as the tide receded made for perfecting diving for the kingfishers. We had five in the tree above us and on average one in five would fail in their attempt to capture dinner. I am thinking there were some young ones among them because there were many false starts and failed dives.
There is something so relaxing about sitting in the sun watching the birds, if there was a cafe in walking distance it would be perfect. Alas if there was, there would also be too many people and the birds would be gone. The kingfisher numbers are promising this year though so I am looking forward to a bumper season of images to process and post here to share with you all.
