The Kea’s New Enclosure

On our last visit to Staglands Wildlife Reserve the new kea enclosure was almost finished and we could see how great it was going to be for the birds. So on our next free day we headed back to Staglands to check it out.  The enclosure is so much bigger than it was, yet it still feels familiar.  I am sure the birds are happy to be home and enjoying the improvements. The enclosure is now home to the three kea, a pukeko, a pair of pāteke/brown teal ducks, a family of californian quail and some sparrows.  If there are any others, I didn’t see them in the time I spent in the aviary.  We also checked out the other walk through aviary and had some fun bird encounters.  This is a selection of my images from the visit – please enjoy.
