kereru - wood pigeon

A Trip to Pukatea Estate

This last weekend I was attending the PSNZ Central Regional Convention in Whanganui.  One of the field trips took us to the Pukatea Estate where we were served afternoon tea by steam punk enthusiasts and saw the largest flock of kererū that I have ever seen.  I am still learning the new camera and from time to time knocked settings off what they should have been but at least I am getting some images I am happy with. This post is all about the kererū.

I wandered around the blossom covered trees that the kererū were feasting on and took lots of images of these clumsy lovable birds. There were just so many of them that it was hard to know which one to follow.  So these images are a bit random with all sorts of different light situations.  At one point a kererū took flight and headed straight for me.  Thankfully I had the finger on the shutter at the time, so I managed to capture this image.  Not as sharp as I would have liked but I still like it a whole lot.
