First sighting of a rifleman chick

I am still visiting the riflemen as often as I can because I know that eventually the opportunity will be gone.  I love this time of year for Nature – there are so many young birds around, we are spoilt for choice!

When we arrived at the nest site yesterday we had to be quick to capture any images, the parent birds were coming and going so quickly we just pointed the camera and hoped we ended up with something. At one point we noticed movement inside the nest box, but it wasn’t until later when looking at the our images that we noticed the chick.

The next surprise was when the male bird bought a soft white feather over to the nest. He stopped at the nest entrance for a while with it then took it over to a branch. I think he wanted to show it off because not long after he took it into the nest, then returned without it.
