Juvenile Tui at Zealandia

This morning I introduced Zealandia to a friend who is new to bird photography and currently visiting Wellington.  Unfortunately the weather was not great so we were dealing with low light situations all day.  I wasn’t going to let that stop me from getting at least one good image for the day.

Lately I have been enjoying testing out my Lumix G9 in all sorts of different situations and so far it hasn’t let me down. Today was no exception. I have also been stepping out of my comfort zone with regards to the camera settings.

The images in this post were all shot in low light with ISO 4000,  400mm, f/6.3 to f/7.1, 1/125 sec.  I spotted this young tui through the trees and managed to get a few images that I am super happy with.  They were a touch noisy because of the high ISO but that was easily dealt with using Topaz plugins.  I really enjoy the ease with with I can reduce the noise without losing any of the feather detail in the bird using this filter.
